In the BBC TV adaptation of Poldark
Story
Follows Rupert Campbell-Black and Tony Baddingham as they see their long-running rivalry come to an end. Coincidentally, Aidan Turner had previously filmed at Chavenage House (a rival monastery). The same filming location was also used to portray Trenwith House in 2015.
Far from the truth, Cooper satirizes the upper middle classes of the Cotswolds with an iron wit and has always understood comedy, character and entertaining subplots
There was a terrible Jilly Cooper version of The Riders in the 1990s, and TV has shunned her ever since ' bonkbusters' critics find Jilly Cooper’s novels dated and silly. In many ways, her work has been more of a revival comedy than a Crery On, with characters that have more development and more inner life than you’d expect. Now comes RIVALS from Disney, which boasts a great cast, and the good news is that The Great Hour, yes, it’s full of naughty moments, breasts and trouble, even Willy at times.
The changes are minor and actually open up the period and politics more
But her triumph is that she has the budget and time to match the feel and spirit of the original book. Bella Maclean is excellent in the lead role of Tagie and Alex Hassel is excellent as Rupert. This role is impossible to play because no one in the story can be a character.
He does a really respectable job
created by Cooper, part villain, part Adonis, part whine child. But the real star of this work is the ensemble of excellent actors Emily Atack, Danny Dyer, Katherine Parkinson, who give the best performances of their careers. The 80s soundtrack is on point and turns the competition into a true Disney triumph.
I liked it very much
It’s fun, it’s bubbly, but there’s a deeper subtext that elevates it above a standout movie and gives us hope that we’ll see a lot more from this team and this universe in the future.
