Story
Follows a team of British intelligence agents who serve as a dumping ground for MI5 due to career-ending mistakes. Deep in the captions under "Camera Trainees" Alfie Oldman, Gary Oldman’s son, can be seen. Featured in Graham Norton i gosti: Kristin Scott Thomas/George Takei/Claudia Winkleman/Jamie Oliver/First Aid Kit (2022).
Gary Oldman has already proven himself a master of the political and spy thriller subgenres with his strong performance in the Oscar-winning Darkest Hour (2017); as well as the more underrated and equally effective Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)
He has portrayed gravitas, charisma, composure under pressure as well as unflinching efficiency very well on screen, but the new Apple TV+ offering showcases a whole different dimension to the British veteran, mixed with dry British wit and wry humor while never abandoning the espionage elements. a thrill. We follow the story of MI5 agent "Jackson Lamb" (Oldman), who leads a sub-group within the intelligence agency called the Slow Horses; since it’s mostly made up of disgraced, ineffectual exes that no one else wants.
Oldman is in blistering form as the caustic, trash-talking spy who seems to use mockery and scorn as weapons to get his way
Lamb seems perfectly happy performing routine operations and surveillance gigs when his team inadvertently finds themselves involved in the kidnapping of a Muslim youth, possibly executed by right-wing fundamentalists. Starring Jonathan Pryce, Christine Scott-Thomas, Saskia Reeves, Jack Lowden and a host of fine British actors, Slow Horses takes care to paint vivid sketches of its characters, a motley crew of temperamental agents, all with something to prove given their sordid pasts. Director James Hawes builds his narrative slowly but surely over six healthy episodes, which are full of unexpected twists and turns as the stakes get higher and the conspiracy more intricate as the team follows one after the other.
to laugh at the most unexpected moments
The Writings by Morwenna Banks; Will Smith; Johnny Stockwood; Mark Denton deserves special praise for striking the right balance between character development, suspense, unexpected twists and humor. Apple TV+ has another winner on its hands, with ‘Slow Horses’, along with ‘Severance’ clearly emerging as one of the best new series of 2022. Highly recommended and can’t wait for season 2!
